Well many thought it was boring to watch Strauss and Cook play slowly to give England a good start on day 1 but that turned out to be right strategy at the end of Day 1. England resumed the innings on Day 2 and managed to add around 80 runs to the overnight score, mostly thanks to Matt Prior and night watchman Anderson and they did great job with bowl too picking 6 wickets for just 150+ runs at end of Day 2. England has got good chance to win this test and erase memories of ODI performances and today will be important day for both the teams and whoever can steal the show today will have good chance to win this match.

With Flintoff at crease and Matt Prior, GP Swann yet to come, England should look forward to score another 150 before India get to bat. On the other hand if India get early wickets, then England will be in trouble.

Thursday, December 11th, 2008After winning toss and decide to bat, New Zealand did not get the start they would have wanted but Flynn did a great job with McIntosh and Ryder to help New Zealand reach 226 at the end of shortened day. Match will start half an hour early to compensate the lost time.
New Zealand should target 400 with Ryder and McCullum at crease and 6 wickets in hand and West Indies need some quick wickets in 1st session to restrict New Zealand to a reasonable total which can be defended.

Thursday, December 11th, 2008Finally England tour of India resumes which was interrupted after 26/11 Terrorist strike on Financial capital of India. A good gesture by ECB to comeback and show cricket will not come to stall in Asia due to acts of terrorist, but really they ain’t got much of a choice (Reported by UK magazines) with kind of pressure BCCI and sponsors putting on them. Anyways cricket is back (though I’m not happy as people may forget what happened in Mumbai faster making Govt job easier) England will be playing two tests as planned earlier this month.
Sourav’s retirement will help Yuvraj to make way into test team and Kumble’s retirement will help Mishra/Ojha. England also playing two spinners in this match and G. Swann will make his test debut. I just hope England will lift their game and compete to make game interesting.

ICC Test rankings clearly tell the story of both West Indies and New Zealand in test cricket with ranks 7 and 8 respectively. If New Zealand win the series, then both teams will swap their positions but still will be behind many other test cricketing nations.
West Indies hasn’t played test cricket for a while and I think understanding the conditions and planning for the five day game will be challenging.

Saturday, November 29th, 2008With another 4 wickets in hand, New Zealand should be looking to add another 100 runs to the current score before they feel comfortable with out-of-form Australian batting. (even though first innings avg scores at this ground are much higher). If Aussies can get early wickets on Day 2, it will be hard for New Zealand to recover in this match.
